Perhaps you have been told by others that for a goal to be effective, it has to be big and maybe even sounds scary to you.
Heck, there is even a term for this type of goals. It's called BIG HAIRY AUDACIOUS GOAL (or BHAG for short).
But there's a problem. This method doesn't work for everybody. If you have ever set a goal that is so big, thinking that it would motivate you to achieve it, only to have it backfire on you, you would know exactly what I mean.
You see, a BHAG is not your starting point. It is not even close to Step 1 in the goal setting process. If you don't do the necessary ground work first to prepare yourself, your BHAG will most certainly be the number 1 reason why you procrastinate.
